Conical hat market - unique culture in Vietnam’s villages

Chuong village in Phuong Trung commune, Thanh Oai district is renowned as one of the most ancient craft villages in Vietnam and is famous for its centuries old tradition of conical hat making. With more than 300 years of history, conical hats in Chuong village have become familiar to many generations of villagers. Local residents are always proud of having a tradition of making conical hats.    The conical hat market of Chuong village is open on the 4th, 10th, 14th, 20th, 24th and 30th of lunar months. Street art performance at HCMC Central Post Office

The Central Post Office in downtown HCMC is a famous tourist attraction as it is one of the architectural works of historical and cultural value. Those visiting the post office can see street art performances just in front of the French-built building every Saturday morning, starting from the middle of this month. Artists play traditional musical instruments in front of the Central Post Office in downtown HCMC every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A group of member artists of the folk dance and music club “Gio moi” (new wind) under District 1’s Cultural Center and students from the HCMC Conservatory of Music stage the public performances from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to entertain visitors to the post office and passers-by. Traditional musical instruments are used to play Vietnamese folk music, such as don ca tai tu, a genre of folk music popular in southern Vietnam recognized in 2013 by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Life in fishing village on stage in Phan Thiet

Lang Chai (Fishing Village) Theater has recently been put into service, creating an entertainment and cultural space for tourists to Mui Ne in Phan Thiet City in Binh Thuan Province to admire unique art performances. Located close to the Nguyen Thong-Mui Ne Roundabout, the theater costing VND44 billion (US$1.9 million) is capable of accommodating 1,200 guests.  The first performances at the theater depicted daily routines of fishermen and their families, giving a chance for spectators to get a glimpse at the daily coastal life of local fishermen full of hardship and danger. Furthermore, audiences can learn more about the colorful culture of Cham ethnic minority people and ritual beliefs of seafarers and local fishermen to pray for good luck and prosperity.
