US ambassador invites tourists to visit Vietnam

United States Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius has recommended people to visit the Southeast Asian country at least once in their lifetime.

The U.S. diplomat posted a status update to his official Facebook page on Saturday, saying that Vietnam is a must-visit destination for travelers of all ages while quoting a recent travel article by The New York Times.

“A travel checklist by The New York Times names Vietnam as one of the 20 places you should visit in your 20’s. And although I couldn’t agree more, I’d like to make an argument for also traveling to Vietnam in your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s too!” Ambassador Osius said in his status update.

“Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you’re too old to enjoy all that Vietnam has to offer!” he continued.

In the travel checklist presented by The New York Times on October 20, Vietnam was ranked 10 th among the 20 destinations people should travel to in their 20’s.

The Southeast Asian nation was considered rich in cuisine, culture, and natural beauty, as well as light on the wallet, the newspaper elaborated.

The writer recommended a trip to the country’s ancient town of Hoi An and former capital of Hue in the central region, adding that taking a cruise ship along the Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Gulf of Tonkin, would also be memorable.

Earlier this year, The New York Times also placed Da Lat, a resort town in the Central Highlands, at the 30 th spot among the top 52 destinations readers must visit in 2016.
